My name is Kathleen Verhetsel. I’m a Belgian graphic designer, illustrator and pattern maker.
Even though art, drawing and graphic design have always been one of my passions, I never actually had a formal education. When the time came I decided to study Journalism and I got a degree in it a couple years later. But after graduating, I wanted to follow my passion. Through some amazing people I got the chance to make a dream come true and I became a real graphic designer. During my day job my main focus is webdesign and for my small business on the side I focus on illustration and print design. I love making special cards for special occasions for example birth announcement cards and wedding invitations.
I love illustrating and drawing things that make me happy and I want to share this happiness with others through my designs. I prefer to work with bright and sunny colors. Since my background is in graphic design and webdesign, I tend to make most of my work digital. That’s also no suprise if you now that I am the daughter of a software engineer and I’ve grown up among computers. But sometimes going back to basic feels very nice as well. That’s why you’ll sometimes see mee use water colors or pastels.
When I’m not drawing or illustrating, you’ll probably find me reading a good novel, writing either a short story or my blog, sewing some clothes for myself or a gift for someone else or cycling miles and miles and miles on my bike.
About Katie Dots
Since my real name is quite difficult to remember, I decided to start my own brand with a name that is easier to remember and to write. Especially that last bit. Even in Belgium where my name isn’t at all that strange, people tend to write it wrong. So Katie Dots was born in April 2014 after I took the wonderful and inspiring course The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design.
If you’d like to work with me, feel free to contact me. I’ll be happy to answer your questions.
